I don`t like Butterflies

Hello again crafty friends, I am sharing with you another of the cards I have made for the Shabby Chic range due to be launched by Crafters Companion on Hochanda at 8, O, clock on Monday. I loved the papers in the paper pad but my imagination was running wild and I just had to make this card. As you know by now I am frightened by things that suddenly fly up and I have been seen running away screaming when a Butterfly comes near (they just know), but these Butterflies are not scary at all and I can`t stop using them on other projects (which I will share with you later).

what was used:
Crafters Companion, Shabby Chic, Chic Butterflies dies
Crafters Companion, Shabby Chic, Vintage Lace Edge die
14,5cm x 13.5cm  base card
Crafters Companion Centura Pearl Card, Snow White with a hint of Silver
copy paper
mica pigment misters (3 soft colours)
pastel chalks (4 bright colours)
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Milled Lavender
small heart punch
lilac pearl paper scraps
5mm lilac satin ribbon
sentiment from stash

Not a difficult card to make but it does require a bit of thought and prep..

First of all I made the creased backing paper prior to making the card as it needs to dry out thoroughly before it is stuck to the card.
I wet a sheet of copy paper with a mister (I mean soaked) then dabbed colours from the mica misters onto the wet paper with a big brush, then screw the paper into a ball making sure that the painted surface is folded onto itself, finally squeeze the excess water from the ball of paper and unfold onto newspaper and allow to dry. This is a messy process and every time you do it you will get a unique result so just play and enjoy. I made these papers ages ago and I cant remember the colours I used.
Once the paper is dry you can flatten it down further by ironing on the reverse side.

The background for the lace and the Butterflies was made with the bright pastel chalks which I just dabbed onto copy paper and blended (you don't need to be too particular about the blending of the colours because it all merges seamlessly when it is put under the cut out design).
I simply marked the edges of the die cuts onto the chalked paper, cut out the shapes and stuck them onto the back of the die cuts.

I hope you have fun and aren't too put off by the messy paper making because once you start it is addictive and you will be making loads.

Well today we have storm Doris arriving and it is already very windy here in Lincolnshire. I have a big Conifer tree outside the house and a wonky chimney so I really hope they hold up to the winds to come. It is on days like this when the weather is too bad to venture out that I am glad I have my crafting hobbies to keep me occupied or I would go stir crazy. My fur babies Roger and Rosie didn't think much to the winds this morning and didn't stay out long, in fact Rosie was very vocal in her complaints when she came back in. I hope you all weather the storm safely and get lots of crafty things done too.

  2. Thank you Marianne. Yes I've heard that Butterflies are a sign from a loved one who has passed on but fortunately for me my signs seem to come as feathers. I have had these papers for so many years and was thrilled to be able to finally use one of them. Xx
